Architecture Tours

Cluj and Its Lights with Ionuț Julean

We propose a cultural and institutional route, which will aim to visit representative buildings of the city from unconventional perspectives. We capture the urban spectacle in a new way, starting from the “innards” of the oldest lyrical scene in Romania, from the mysterious world of the false reality of the scenography (life under the spotlight), from the ambience of the social spectacle in the foyers that still evoke the exuberance of life in the Belle Époque (city life in the light of chandeliers), to the silence and mystical darkness of the Orthodox Cathedral admired from places that allow us to understand the ingenuity of the interwar architecture (emphasizing the opening of the sacred space through light to the transcendent), followed by the “Saint Michael” Church, where we will discover six centuries of Western sacred art and architecture (here, in the center of the urban restlessness, in the light of the stained glass windows, the city claims its tranquility). The visit ends with a perspective on the urban spectacle The tour is sold out. Thank you!

The Roofs as an Urban Identity: Attics Of The ”St. Michael” Church and The Reformed Church with Imola Kirizsan

Historic roofs play an essential role in defining a city’s silhouette. They shape how the city is perceived from afar, leaving a lasting visual impression that contributes to both its aesthetic and cultural identity. These roofs not only define the skyline, acting as the city’s “fifth façade,” but also stand as remarkable feats of craftsmanship and engineering. Far more than functional elements, they enhance the city’s overall character while providing superior protection. From the church tower to the intricate roofs of historic buildings, each structure adds to the unique visual fabric of the urban space. This tour will take visitors to Cluj’s most iconic landmarks, focusing on the Church of St. Michael and the Reformed Church on Kogălniceanu Street. It offers rare access to their attics and impressive trusses, both recently restored to exceptional standards, giving participants a fresh perspective on these architectural masterpieces. The tour is sold out. Thank you!
