Festivalul FAST este despre conexiune, iar edi\u021bia din 2024, desf\u0103\u0219urat\u0103 sub tema \u201eDiversecity\u201d, a reu\u0219it s\u0103 dea curs dialogului \u00een fiecare moment al festivalului. Cea de-a doua edi\u021bie nu numai c\u0103 ne-a unit ca oameni, ci \u0219i ca profesie \u0219i viitori profesioni\u0219ti. Totodat\u0103, aceast\u0103 edi\u021bie a reunit s\u0103 reuneasc\u0103 \u0219i o selec\u021bie de keynote speakers de renume, precum N\u00edall McLaughlin, arhitect &amp; fondator N\u00edall McLaughlin Architects.<\/p>\n<p>Recent, McLaughlin a fost desemnat c\u00e2\u0219tig\u0103torul Royal Gold Medal, distinc\u021bie acordat\u0103 de RIBA &#8211; Royal Institute of British Architects. Cu aceast\u0103 ocazie, Revista Zeppelin ne ofer\u0103 un preview din lumea arhitectului, prin interviul realizat \u00een cadrul festivalului, reu\u0219ind s\u0103 ne reaminteasc\u0103 de c\u00e2t de apreciat a fost speakerul. Mi-a atras aten\u021bia felul \u00een care a vorbit despre educa\u021bia de arhitectur\u0103 \u0219i predispozi\u021bia sa de a fi g\u0103sit mereu \u00eenconjurat de un grup de studen\u021bi pe care \u00eei asculta cu interes. Cu mult\u0103 curiozitate i-a \u00eentrebat despre lucr\u0103rile lor de diplom\u0103, metodele de predare, greut\u0103\u021bile \u0219i bucuriile de a fi studen\u021bi la Arhitectur\u0103. C\u0103ldura pe care a transmis-o a f\u0103cut ca studen\u021bii s\u0103-l caute chiar \u0219i \u00een timpul petrecerilor, spre amuzamentul tuturor.<\/p>\n<p>L-am \u00eentrebat despre \u00eenceputurile carierei de arhitect \u0219i despre metodele preferate de predare \u0219i ne-a r\u0103spuns cu entuziasm \u0219i cu mult\u0103 \u00een\u021belegere pentru schimb\u0103rile prin care trece fiecare genera\u021bie.<\/p>\n<p>Interviul \u00eempreun\u0103 cu trei proiecte orientate c\u0103tre bun\u0103starea fizic\u0103 \u0219i psihic\u0103 a studen\u021bilor indic\u0103 priorit\u0103\u021bile profesionale ale lui N\u00edall \u0219i ale echipei sale \u00een timp ce ne descoper\u0103 profilul pedagogic al unuia dintre profesorii foarte pl\u0103cu\u021bi ai disciplinei.<\/p>\n<p>Dincolo de practic\u0103 \u0219i predare, Niall McLaughlin Architects se preocup\u0103 de teme ca \u00eengrijirea pentru v\u00e2rstnici, implicarea \u00een vie\u021bile lor \u0219i starea studen\u021bilor \u00eentr-un climat care izoleaz\u0103 mai degrab\u0103 dec\u00e2t aduce \u00eempreun\u0103. Proiectele sunt desenate, deci, astfel \u00eenc\u00e2t s\u0103 \u00eencurajeze interac\u021biunea, s\u0103 \u00eembun\u0103t\u0103\u021beasc\u0103 rela\u021biile \u00eentre locuitori \u0219i s\u0103 fac\u0103 loc hazardului.<\/p>\n<p>Conversa\u021bia cu N\u00edall a avut loc la FAST (Festival for Architecture Schools of Tomorrow), unde am putut s\u0103 petrecem c\u00e2teva zile cu invita\u021bii, cu studen\u021bii \u0219i cu \u0219colile de arhitectur\u0103.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Despre construc\u021bie, \u00eenv\u0103\u021bare ca practic\u0103 profesional\u0103 \u0219i despre curiozitatea de-a-i asculta pe ceilal\u021bi<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><strong>C.F.<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>Pentru \u00eenceput, a\u0219 vrea s\u0103 te \u00eentreb despre schimb\u0103rile pe care le-ai observat \u00een lunga carier\u0103 didactic\u0103. Sunt lucrurile diferite acum fa\u021b\u0103 de propria studen\u021bie?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>N.M<\/strong>.: C\u00e2nd am \u00eenceput s\u0103 profesez, aveam \u00een jur de 26\u201327 de ani \u0219i eram \u00een Londra, de\u0219i nu eram originar de acolo. M\u0103 implic \u00een activitatea didactic\u0103, pentru c\u0103 \u00eemi doresc ceva de la ea \u2013 caut resurse care s\u0103-mi sus\u021bin\u0103 \u0219i s\u0103-mi \u00eembog\u0103\u021beasc\u0103 propria practic\u0103 creativ\u0103. A\u0219adar, este un schimb real, cu sensuri \u0219i beneficii \u00een ambele direc\u021bii.<\/p>\n<p>Pentru mine, acesta este nucleul \u00eentregului demers. \u00cen clipa \u00een care nu mai are loc acest schimb, \u00eenseamn\u0103 c\u0103 nu predau, ci predic. C\u00e2nd am idei asupra c\u0103rora reflectez timp \u00eendelungat \u2013 concepte dificil de integrat direct \u00een practica profesional\u0103 \u2013, le pot introduce \u00een cadrul didactic ca subiecte de explorare pe parcursul mai multor ani, pentru a le testa poten\u021bialul.<\/p>\n<p>Iar atunci c\u00e2nd acest poten\u021bial iese la iveal\u0103, integrarea lui \u00een practica propriu-zis\u0103 devine mult mai fireasc\u0103. Cred c\u0103 vorbeam despre asta cu ni\u0219te studen\u021bi, recent: faptul c\u0103 ui\u021bi uneori de dimensiunea profesional\u0103. Devii arhitect din prima zi a primului an de studiu \u0219i, odat\u0103 cu asta, \u00eencepi s\u0103 practici. Nu exist\u0103 ani de preg\u0103tire p\u00e2n\u0103 \u201edevii\u201d arhitect. Po\u021bi s\u0103 te adresezi ora\u0219ului prin proiectele pe care le propui. Iar atunci c\u00e2nd termini \u0219coala, \u00ee\u021bi continui practica profesional\u0103 \u0219i continui s\u0103 \u00eenve\u021bi. \u00cenv\u0103\u021barea trebuie s\u0103 fie un proces continuu, pe tot parcursul vie\u021bii. A\u0219a c\u0103, din prima zi a facult\u0103\u021bii, practici \u0219i \u00eenve\u021bi simultan.<\/p>\n<p>Revenind la nuan\u021ba \u00eentreb\u0103rii tale: cred c\u0103 at\u00e2t \u00een Marea Britanie, c\u00e2t \u0219i \u00een America \u2013 \u0219i poate \u0219i aici \u2013 practica profesional\u0103 a devenit tot mai disociat\u0103 de procesul educa\u021bional. Nu sunt suficien\u021bi practicieni implica\u021bi \u00een activitatea de predare \u00een aceste \u0219coli. \u00cen mediile didactice \u00een care activez eu, precum \u0219i \u00een cele din Dublin, unde am studiat, am fost format de profesori care lucrau \u00een birourile lui Louis Kahn, Mies van der Rohe, James Stirling, oameni care aveau propriile birouri de arhitectur\u0103 \u0219i care ne formau profesional prin prezen\u021ba lor activ\u0103 \u00een atelier. Ast\u0103zi \u00eens\u0103 mul\u021bi dintre cei care predau vin dintr-un cadru pur teoretic \u0219i privesc practica arhitectural\u0103 ca pe un domeniu complet diferit. Ce mi-a pl\u0103cut la ceea ce am v\u0103zut \u00een Rom\u00e2nia \u2013 \u00een special la aceast\u0103 conferin\u021b\u0103 \u2013 este c\u0103 mul\u021bi studen\u021bi sunt \u00eendruma\u021bi de practicieni.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"001_AB-03_A_IMG_4388\" href=\"https:\/\/e-zeppelin.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/001_AB-03_A_IMG_4388-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/e-zeppelin.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/001_AB-03_A_IMG_4388-1.jpg\" alt=\"001_AB-03_A_IMG_4388\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>*Workshop \u201eDrawing Together\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.F<\/strong>.:<em>\u00a0Lucrezi, a\u0219a cum spuneai, la construirea unei comunit\u0103\u021bi de \u00eenv\u0103\u021bare, nu la impunerea unei dogme. Totu\u0219i, modelul acela \u00eenc\u0103 exist\u0103, sunt arhitec\u021bi care predau urm\u0103rind s\u0103 lase o mo\u0219tenire intelectual\u0103 \u00een urma lor. Ce te determin\u0103 s\u0103 faci lucrurile altfel?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>N.M.<\/strong>: Exist\u0103 o presupunere \u00een \u00eentrebarea ta cu care nu sunt sigur c\u0103 sunt complet de acord: nu cred c\u0103 acela este un mod gre\u0219it de a preda. Mul\u021bi oameni au \u00eenv\u0103\u021bat \u00een astfel de contexte \u0219i au beneficiat enorm din aceste rela\u021bii de tip maestru\u2013discipol. A\u0219adar, aceast\u0103 rela\u021bie nu este \u00een sine eronat\u0103. Cred c\u0103 pentru mul\u021bi a fost o formul\u0103 fertil\u0103 de formare. Se potrive\u0219te unui anumit tip de student \u0219i unui anumit tip de profesor. Ceea ce m\u0103 determin\u0103 s\u0103 procedez diferit este faptul c\u0103 eu nu am fost un astfel de student, prin urmare nu pot fi un astfel de profesor. Dar v\u0103d al\u021bi profesori \u0219i studen\u021bi excelen\u021bi care func\u021bioneaz\u0103 bine \u00een acel tipar, iar aceast\u0103 diversitate m\u0103 bucur\u0103. Motivul pentru care nu predau \u00een acel fel este unul de ordin personal: nu sunt \u00eenclinat spre acea abordare. \u00cemi place mai mult s\u0103 aflu ce g\u00e2nde\u0219te cel\u0103lalt dec\u00e2t s\u0103 \u00eei spun ce g\u00e2ndesc eu. \u00cemi st\u00e2rne\u0219te mai mult interesul, \u00een fond, m-am plictisit de propriul meu discurs. Prefer s\u0103 \u00eenv\u0103\u021b de la ceilal\u021bi.<\/p>\n<p>Ceea ce facem noi este s\u0103 construim un cadru care spune: \u201eArat\u0103-ne ce ai, adu ideile pe care le-ai visat\u201d. \u00cemi place s\u0103 cred c\u0103 suntem buni \u00een ceea ce a\u0219 numi \u201ecoaching\u201d, adic\u0103 ceva de genul: \u201eAh, dac\u0103 te g\u00e2nde\u0219ti s\u0103 faci asta, pot s\u0103-\u021bi ar\u0103t aceast\u0103 resurs\u0103 sau acel proiect\u2026\u201d Este mai degrab\u0103 un mod de a-i ajuta s\u0103-\u0219i structureze ideile \u0219i s\u0103 le creasc\u0103. \u0218i ceea ce este esen\u021bial de \u00een\u021beles e c\u0103 asta nu vine dintr-un gest de generozitate unilateral\u0103, ci dintr-un c\u00e2\u0219tig reciproc: \u00een timp ce urm\u0103resc cum ideile lor \u00eenfloresc, \u00eemi spun \u00een sinea mea: \u201eUite o ocazie de \u00eenv\u0103\u021bare \u0219i pentru mine\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.F.<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>\u0218tefan Ghenciulescu, redactorul-\u0219ef al revistei Zeppelin, spunea recent c\u0103 se simte mai degrab\u0103 ca o moa\u0219\u0103 dec\u00e2t ca un maestru, cit\u00e2ndu-l pe arhitectul \u0219i profesorul grec Elia Zenghelis.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>N.M.<\/strong>: Este o compara\u021bie foarte frumoas\u0103 \u0219i m\u0103 bucur c\u0103 ai adus-o \u00een discu\u021bie. Tocmai am petrecut ceva timp \u00een dialog cu un grup de studen\u021bi, iar to\u021bi mi-au spus c\u0103 este cel mai carismatic profesor pe care l-au \u00eent\u00e2lnit. E \u00eencurajator s\u0103 \u0219tii c\u0103 po\u021bi fi o \u201emoa\u0219\u0103 carismatic\u0103\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cea mai \u00eendelungat\u0103 colaborare didactic\u0103 a mea a fost cu Yeoryia Manolopoulou, al\u0103turi de care am predat mai bine de 20 de ani la Bartlett \u2013 UCL. Obi\u0219nuiam s\u0103 glumim pe seama propriilor noastre stiluri: eu sunt un profesor \u201epropozi\u021bional\u201d, iar ea este una \u201einterogativ\u0103\u201d. Eu spuneam: \u201eUite, ai putea face asta sau cealalt\u0103\u201d, iar ea intervenea imediat cu un: \u201eDar de ce?\u201d [r\u00e2de]. Am descris \u00eentotdeauna stilul nostru de predare ca pe o ma\u0219in\u0103 condus\u0103 de dou\u0103 persoane: una apas\u0103 accelera\u021bia, cealalt\u0103 \u021bine m\u00e2na pe fr\u00e2n\u0103. Cred c\u0103 exist\u0103 moduri diferite de a preda, iar studen\u021bii, de cele mai multe ori, privesc c\u0103tre profesorii lor g\u00e2ndindu-se: \u201eA\u0219 putea fi a\u0219a sau a\u0219 putea fi altfel\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.F.:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Cum ai caracteriza rela\u021bia actual\u0103 a studen\u021bilor cu me\u0219te\u0219ugul?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>N.M.: Este o \u00eentrebare complex\u0103. Studen\u021bii pe care \u00eei \u00eendrum\u2026 au la dispozi\u021bie un atelier de lucru excep\u021bional\u2026 poate mai pu\u021bin utilizat acum, odat\u0103 cu avalan\u0219a acestor instrumente digitale \u201egeeky\u201d. Dar cei mai buni coboar\u0103 \u00een atelier, lucreaz\u0103 cu materiale reale \u0219i creeaz\u0103 obiecte extrem de frumoase cu m\u00e2inile lor. A\u0219adar, exist\u0103 \u00eenc\u0103 o leg\u0103tur\u0103 semnificativ\u0103 cu me\u0219te\u0219ugul. Aceast\u0103 dimensiune a fost \u00eentotdeauna o direc\u021bie important\u0103 \u00een practica mea pedagogic\u0103. Totu\u0219i, simt c\u0103 lucrurile \u00eencep s\u0103 se schimbe. Studen\u021bii nu au g\u0103sit \u00eenc\u0103 o manier\u0103 complet creativ\u0103 de a utiliza aceste instrumente sau, cel pu\u021bin, nu constant. A\u0219 face, de asemenea, o distinc\u021bie clar\u0103 \u00eentre artizanul care produce obiecte cu m\u00e2inile sale \u0219i arhitectul al c\u0103rui rol nu este s\u0103 construiasc\u0103 el \u00eensu\u0219i totul. E ca la IKEA: c\u00e2nd prime\u0219ti instruc\u021biunile de montaj \u0219i te \u00eentrebi c\u00e2t de mult a anticipat autorul lor \u00eentreb\u0103rile pe care urmeaz\u0103 s\u0103 \u021bi le pui \u00een timpul asambl\u0103rii. Rolul arhitectului este s\u0103 \u00een\u021beleag\u0103 suficient de bine procesul de construc\u021bie pentru a \u0219ti ce se poate face \u0219i ce nu, \u0219i apoi s\u0103-i comunice constructorului ce vrea s\u0103 realizeze, av\u00e2nd \u00een minte \u00eentreb\u0103rile, dilemele \u0219i complica\u021biile care pot ap\u0103rea \u00een execu\u021bie. Un desen arhitectural de calitate \u00eencorporeaz\u0103 aceast\u0103 \u00een\u021belegere. E ca o hart\u0103 bine f\u0103cut\u0103. Dac\u0103 o prive\u0219ti \u0219i \u0219tii c\u0103 e corect\u0103, dar nu o po\u021bi descifra, te g\u00e2nde\u0219ti: \u201eProblema este la mine, nu la hart\u0103\u201d. Cred c\u0103 un desen reu\u0219it, f\u0103cut de un arhitect bun, trebuie s\u0103 aib\u0103 aceast\u0103 calitate de transparen\u021b\u0103 \u0219i claritate. \u0218i nu pretindem c\u0103 noi putem realiza acel obiect, c\u0103-l putem \u201eme\u0219teri\u201d, ci c\u0103 \u00een\u021belegem suficient din lumea celor care lucreaz\u0103 cu materialul, astfel \u00eenc\u00e2t s\u0103 putem sintetiza diverse forme de me\u0219te\u0219ug \u00eentr-un demers coerent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.F.:<\/strong>\u00a0<em>Crezi c\u0103 putem \u00een\u021belege cu adev\u0103rat lumea celorlal\u021bi f\u0103r\u0103 a o experimenta direct?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>N.M.<\/strong>: Cred c\u0103 \u00een \u0219colile de arhitectur\u0103 ar fi foarte benefic s\u0103 reflect\u0103m mai mult la asta. Pe vremuri, aveam ceva numit \u201estudio de tehnologie\u201d \u00een fiecare s\u0103pt\u0103m\u00e2n\u0103, unde realizam desene tehnice de execu\u021bie. \u00cencepeam din primul an cu o axonometrie a unei c\u0103r\u0103mizi, iar \u00een anul V ajungeam s\u0103 desen\u0103m complet detaliile de execu\u021bie ale propriilor proiecte. Era un exerci\u021biu extrem de util, \u00eentruc\u00e2t cei care veneau s\u0103 ne \u00eendrume \u00een cadrul acestui studio nu erau profesori din atelierul de proiectare. Erau profesioni\u0219ti pasiona\u021bi de tehnologia construc\u021biilor, iar \u00een acele vremuri obi\u0219nuiau s\u0103 analizeze desenele noastre tehnice ating\u00e2ndu-le cu v\u00e2rful pipei \u0219i \u00eentreb\u00e2nd: \u201eLa ce serve\u0219te asta?\u201d, \u201eCum func\u021bioneaz\u0103?\u201d sau: \u201eCum ai rezolva acest detaliu?\u201d Cred c\u0103 aceast\u0103 latur\u0103 a arhitecturii \u2013 capacitatea de a \u00een\u021belege \u0219i de a comunica riguros un mod de construire \u2013 ar trebui cultivat\u0103 cu mai mult\u0103 insisten\u021b\u0103, astfel \u00eenc\u00e2t absolventul s\u0103 posede tipul de dexteritate a\u0219teptat\u0103, de exemplu, de la un chirurg. Pe acest traseu, spa\u021biul se deschide spre camere de lectur\u0103, galerii \u0219i locuri intime de lectur\u0103 sau contempla\u021bie. \u00cen punctul cel mai \u00eenalt, biblioteca ofer\u0103 perspective ample spre peluz\u0103 \u0219i ap\u0103. O gril\u0103 regulat\u0103 de co\u0219uri de c\u0103r\u0103mid\u0103 sus\u021bine at\u00e2t plan\u0219eele, c\u00e2t \u0219i rafturile de c\u0103r\u021bi \u0219i func\u021bioneaz\u0103 ca sistem pasiv de ventila\u021bie prin care aerul cald este evacuat ascensional. \u00centre fiecare grup de patru co\u0219uri este inserat un luminator, care aduce lumina natural\u0103 \u00een spa\u021biile interioare: aerul urc\u0103, lumina coboar\u0103. Aceast\u0103 dispunere repetitiv\u0103 genereaz\u0103 o ierarhie spa\u021bial\u0103 fireasc\u0103: zone \u00eenguste pentru circula\u021bie \u0219i zone largi pentru lectur\u0103. Structura vertical\u0103 portant\u0103, din zid\u0103rie aparent\u0103 de c\u0103r\u0103mid\u0103, este articulat\u0103 cu elemente orizontale din lemn stratificat cu deschidere mare, \u00eentr-o logic\u0103 tectonic\u0103 clar\u0103, ce \u00eent\u0103re\u0219te organizarea general\u0103 a spa\u021biului. Co\u0219urile de fum anim\u0103 linia corni\u0219ei, iar ancadramentele din piatr\u0103 subliniaz\u0103 golurile. Am \u00eencercat s\u0103 reinterpret\u0103m acest set de elemente arhitecturale \u00een noua cl\u0103dire. Pentru traforurile ferestrelor am folosit lemn \u00een loc de piatr\u0103, care, odat\u0103 expus intemperiilor, se va patina \u00eentr-un gri-argintiu asem\u0103n\u0103tor pietrei vechi.
